KUALA LUMPUR: Senior police officers have been told not to form cliques within the police force.
“There is no such thing as ‘my men’ or ‘your men’,” said Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani.
“As long as all of us are wearing the blue uniform, we are all in one team.”
The police force must act as one without having factions, he said in his speech after witnessing the handing-over ceremony for the Selangor police chief post yesterday.
Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan took over the post from Deputy Comm Datuk S. Sasikala Devi, who had held the position on an acting capacity following the retirement of Comm Datuk Arjunaidi Mohamed.
Later at a press conference, the IGP said there should be no discrimination against any officer or rank-and-file member.
“Leaders must acknowledge all subordinates and treat every officer and personnel member equally,” he said.
While not ruling out the possibility that there could be some cliques within the police force, Acryl Sani said this could also be just a perception of others.
“It could happen anywhere and in any organisation.
“Nonetheless, we don’t want such a culture in the police force.”
He stressed that no one should be seen as somebody’s “golden boy” or “golden girl” either.
On Comm Hussein as the new Selangor police chief, Acryl Sani said: “I am confident he will be able to lead Selangor police to new heights.”
His experiences in the police force – including as Bukit Aman CID deputy director and in the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) – would contribute greatly towards his task of helming the Selangor police, he said in congratulating Comm Hussein on his appointment.
“However, he will need the full support of all Selangor officers and personnel, especially head of departments and OCPDs,” he said.
Comm Hussein said he was honoured to be appointed to the post.
“It is a huge responsibility leading a 14,000-strong state contingent and I will do my best to fulfil my duties.
“I hope all officers and personnel in Selangor will work with me in giving the best service to the people,” he added.
Comm Hussein said he believed that his various experiences in the police force as well as support from all officers, including deputy police chief DCP Sasikala, will assist him greatly in leading the Selangor police.
