PETALING JAYA: Former prime minister and Bera MP Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob says he will be contesting for the Bera Umno division chief post but has declined to say if he will be defending his Umno vice-president post in the party polls.
When contacted, Ismail Sabri said that he had given many hints before and that he would only issue a statement on his VP incumbency on Monday (Feb 27).
“I have time and again in the past given hints and said that I am only keen on keeping my Bera Umno division chief post. I will issue a statement tomorrow,” said Ismail Sabri on Sunday (Feb 26), without elaborating further.
As of closing time, all was quiet at the nomination centre at the Umno headquarters in the World Trade Centre on Sunday, with only those on duty present.

As of Saturday (Feb 25), eight candidates have filed papers to contest the three vice-president posts.
Contenders range from ministers to former ministers and state chief ministers, a statement of the importance of the highest post being contested in the polls.
In the list are incumbents Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid and Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, as well as Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican, Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir, Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, Datuk Seri Hasni Mohammad and Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail.
