PETALING JAYA: Former Machang MP Datuk Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub will be reappointed as Felcra Bhd chairman, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has announced.

The announcement came just a day after the government issued a circular that all political appointments in statutory bodies at the federal level and government-linked companies (GLCs) will be ended immediately.

Felcra is under the Rural and Regional Development Ministry, which is also a portfolio helmed by Ahmad Zahid under the unity government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“The appointment adheres to new regulations, and the formality that follows will be carried out soon by ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun,” said Ahmad Zahid.

He was speaking to reporters after officiating Felcra’s 40th anniversary-cum-annual general assembly of its cooperative members here on Friday.

He also stated that Ahmad Jazlan had to end his appointment as the Felcra chair when the new government was formed post-15th General Election.

Ahmad Jazlan, who is also Kelantan Umno chief, was first appointed to the post in October last year.

He also served as deputy rural and regional development minister in Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s administration between 2015 and 2018.
