PETALING JAYA: Users from disadvantaged communities and certain groups will be able to subscribe to a RM30 prepaid plan offering 30GB of data with 3Mbps speed for six months, says the Communications and Digital Ministry.
The plan is based on the existing Youth Package that was initially introduced for youth aged between 12 and 24.
Under the newly-announced ‘Unity Package’, the offer will be extended to youths up to 30 years old, those in the B40 group, persons with disabilities, senior citizens, as well as army and police veterans.
Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the offer was to help lower the cost of Internet access for targeted groups.
He said the package offered a higher Internet speed from the original 1Mbps to 3Mbps with the data allocation amended from 20GB for 90 days to 30GB for 180 days.
“Users can enjoy 50% savings from RM10 monthly to just RM5 monthly,” he said, adding that the RM30 package plan would be offered by CelcomDigi, Maxis, U Mobile, Telekom Malaysia and YTL Communications from February next year.
Details would be announced by the service providers in due course, he added, while fixed broadband users could expect an announcement regarding pricing soon.
