KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian citizens applying for their Malaysian International Passport (PMA) hit a minor setback as the Immigration Department faced a technical glitch.

In a statement at around 10am yesterday, the Immigration Department issued a notice on social media informing applicants that there was an interruption in the application system.

“The Malaysian Immigration Department would like to inform the public that the PMA application service is experiencing technical glitches.

“We apologise for the inconvenience and are doing our best to ensure the system returns to normal operations,” the statement read on their official page.

Many netizens kept each other updated on the status of the glitch with some sharing that the immigration offices in their areas had resumed operations, while others shared that they were still waiting for the glitch to be fixed.

One netizen named Nick Tay said he reached the immigration office at 6.30am so as to be on time for his appointment.

“I took off from work to be there, but the system has been down.

“I was informed that I might have to come back tomorrow morning but I cannot take off from work again.

“The problem is if I need to make an appointment, I will be given a date after my scheduled flight to Singapore.

“This means I would be wasting my time and my trip,” he said.

Some netizens helped each other by updating the comment section with information on which branches were still offline.

As of 5pm yesterday, many were still commenting on the system being down despite the department having announced on social media that the system was working as of 1pm.
