PETALING JAYA: Muda, which will be making its national poll debut, is hoping to contest 10 parliamentary seats in the 15th General Election (GE15) next month, according to sources.
“For now, there will be 10 candidates,” said a source close to the developments.
Apart from Muda’s founder and chief, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, a few fresh faces are likely to be fielded.
Among them are vice-president Zaidel Baharuddin, Muda co-founder Lim Wei Jiet, who contested the Tenang state seat in the Johor polls, Perak Muda chief Mutalib Uthman and Siti Rahayu Baharin.
Muda vice-president Shahrizal Denci, Sabah Muda chief Amos Thien and Sarawak Muda chief Jeffery Ngui are also said to be on the list of potential candidates.
Sources also said announcements on the candidates would be made in about a week’s time.
Syed Saddiq is likely to defend his Muar seat.
It is also reported that Siti Rahayu, who is also the co-founder of Buku Jalanan Chow Kit, is eyeing the Titiwangsa seat.
A source said that seat negotiations with Pakatan Harapan are ongoing.
Shahrizal, who is also a co-founder of the party, has expressed his interest and readiness to contest in GE15 to the party leadership, according to a recent post on his Facebook.
It was also reported that Mutalib had expressed his intention to contest.
Meanwhile, Zaidel, when contacted, said negotiations are still ongoing.
“We are in the midst of negotiations, so nothing is finalised for now,” he said.
Muda’s candidate, Amira Aisya, won the Puteri Wangsa state seat during the Johor state polls.
Although the party lost in the six other state seats it contested, its candidates did not lose their deposits.
