Xiaomi has announced that it will be unveiling a new Redmi device at the end of this week. The company has not yet revealed what phone exactly it will be introducing into the local market, but we can guess what will be coming based on what it has released recently overseas.
There are two devices that are likely candidates for the upcoming Malaysian launch: the Redmi 12 and Redmi 12 5G. The Redmi 12 was unveiled last month in Thailand and is the successor to the Redmi 10. This device already received SIRIM certification shortly after its debut, so it wouldn’t be surprising if this is the phone that Xiaomi has in store for us.
The Redmi 12 sports a 6.79-inch 1080p 90Hz LCD display and has a dust and water resistance rating of IP53. It runs on a MediaTek Helio G88 chipset and for photography, it features a 50MP main camera, an 8MP ultra-wide, and a 2MP macro sensor.
On the other hand, there is also the newly-launched Redmi Note 12R, which is rumoured to launch globally as the Redmi 12 5G. It has mostly the same specs as the 4G variant but with the newer Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 SoC as well as the lack of an ultra-wide lens.
